Maybe you’ve heard about the chapel what is carved entirely from salt and is located 200 meters under the ground?

This is the chapel of the Blessed Kinga in Wieliczka Salt Mines and not only are the premises craved from salt but also chandeliers that hang from the ceiling and “paintings” Da Vinci’s ‘Last Supper’. The most amazing thing is that this has been done by ordinary miners and not by artists.

Wieliczka Salt Mines are included in UNESCO world heritage being built in 13th century and are one of the oldest in the World, reaching a depth of 327 meters and is over 300 kilometers long. The territory opened for visitors is in the oldest part of mines approximately 2 kilometers long including twenty chambers. The route starts about 60 meters underground and takes you to the 135 deepness where the world’s biggest museum of mining is located with the unique centuries-old equipment among its exhibits.

Practical information for tourists: take some warm clothe with you; you cannot go alone in the mines – all tours are guided and if there is not big enough group for your language, you need to join Polish speaking group. The tour takes approximately 2-3 hours.
